Pure Vermont… opportunity, creativity and enterprise.
Near everything, but in its own world.

The Village of North Bennington is located in the southwest corner of Vermont. It lies 20 miles north of Williamstown, MA, and 40 miles east of Amtrak's station on the Hudson River near Albany, NY.

Home to Bennington College, left, the village has long been associated with literary and artistic production.

North Bennington has also hosted generations of businesses founded in the mill buildings along Paran Creek, or operated in the historic buildings along Main and Water streets.

A great place for families. The village was named by Business Week twice in this decade as the best place in Vermont to raise children. The historic village elementary school, renowned within the state for the quality of its education, is now a private academy with free tuition for village residents. There are two other progressive elementary schools near the village; publicly financed tuition is portable to these private schools.

A landscape from the past. North Bennington is geographically defined by a series of waterfalls and mill ponds, bounded on both sides by rolling hills. The village center has been designated as a National Historic District. This developed area is bordered on the west by conserved and actively farmed land. Opportunities for outdoor recreation are close at hand among the hills, at the lake and on trails located just outside the downtown. There are farms growing organic produce and farmers' markets located within a short drive in several directions.

North Bennington at a glance. The median age of residents is 23 years old compared to a Vermont median of 42.6 years. The North Bennington population was 1,643 in the last Census, with 58 percent female.  Twenty-five percent of the households have children under 18 years old, and 34 percent include individuals over 65 years.  More than 60 percent of adult residents have college educations (5+ percent higher than the national average), including more than 24 percent with graduate-level education.

The village is served by Southwest Vermont Medical Center, a full-service hospital affiliated with Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. The hospital is located less than five miles from North Bennington.
